Ghana’s Parliament has moved forward a bill that would criminalize LGBT+ people and their allies.
If passed, it would mean:
Jail time of up to three years for engaging in consensual same-sex intercourse;
The legally required duty for anyone to report those they suspect of being LGBT+;
Imprisonment of up to 10 years for promoting LGBT+ rights or providing social services to the LGBT+ community;
Bans on gender-affirming care, same-sex relationships, LGBT-inclusive education, and the distribution of any pro-LGBT+ materials;
And the criminalization of advocacy, funding, and allyship to LGBT+ people.
This is an extreme threat to the safety and protection of LGBT+ people in Ghana and their allies. That’s why we’re immediately ramping up our international work to get this bill stopped in its tracks. But we need your help right now to do it.
Please, donate today to help stop this bill before it becomes law.
